Director's Message

Dear Valley Prep Parents,Guardians and Supporters:

Happy New Year!  I would like to thank you for your tremendous support during the first semester of 2011-12.  We especially would like to thank our wonderful volunteers that helped serve lunches, fund-raise for our school, supervise on the playground, help in the office, assist the teachers in the classroom, and support the students on field trips and sporting events.  We know your time is valuable and we appreciate you very much!

Have you heard about this year’s student’s service learning projects?  So far this semester younger students have learned to help and care for animals through the “Animals Need Care” project.  In addition, the 5th graders organized a canned food drive for the Dakota House. Each classroom is collecting food for the needy in our community. We know was a big help for families during the holidays.

The 3rd and 4th grade classes have plans to raise money for Orphans in South East Asia and there are many other classroom service learning projects in the works for 2012.  Thank you to parents, guardians, and VPA Staff for your support in teaching our students the value of giving to the community and our world.

As you may have heard, during our fall semester, we were fortunate to attend the Character Education Partnership (CEP) Forum in San Francisco.  At the conference were attendees from thirty-nine states, nine foreign countries, and Puerto Rico, who were there to learn more about the importance of character education. While at the forum, Valley Prep was honored to receive three awards on behalf of our charter school family.  One award was for 2011 National Character School of the Year Finalists and two were for Promising Practices that are an important part of our program at Valley Prep. Our school is currently a CEP State School of the Year.  Congratulations to our students and staff for this great achievement!

We consider it an honor to serve you and your children and understand the value of a quality education enriched with character and health education.  We are continually looking for ways to improve our program and would like to hear from you.  Please email me with any thoughts or ideas you may have for 2012 and beyond. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Shelly Melton-Lether
